A gentle breeze never hurt anyone. However, the greater the wind speed, the more problems that can arise. Wind can give life to an environment; bring in upswings of clouds or sunshine. However, wind is also known for its destruction as in storms, the repercussions of knocking down telephone poles, trees, or even blowing away houses. For the lesser annoyances, which wind can bring, there is always the option of a windscreen. A windscreen is by definition any screen that protects objects or people from the wind, and is a great tool in the crowd control market. This include mesh or knitted screens for outdoor sports courts, as well as some clear screens or fencing for areas designated outside such as an outdoor patio, balcony, or swimming pool.

Windscreens can come in a variety of shapes and sizes and have different uses. For sports, screens are used in a couple of different ways. The mesh, green fabric Americans associate with sports is in actuality multipurpose. This is fabric that not only blocks out the glare from the sun, but distractions including the wind from disturbing the game. This mesh fabric can be hung on chain link fences around baseball mounds or can create a custom barrier around closed tennis or basketball courts. The great thing about this mesh fabric is capable of blocking out up to 70% of sun glare or wind.

A windscreen does not just have to be made of a heavy-duty fabric. They can also be made of glass, plexiglass, or plastic. Although these windscreens do not necessarily prevent sun glare, they do more to protect occupants. This flexible, sometimes self-supporting, fencing can surround a patio, a balcony, and even swimming pools for additional crowd control and safety. This fencing gives a clean look and comes in a variety of sizes and options including different finishes for any lining or posts included in the construction.

The clear fencing prevents injury or drowning as well as windswept debris to enter a swimming pool. Restaurants use this fencing around patios for privacy and to eliminate wind. It is also used as a way for a family to designate space at home while still preventing excessive wind from blowing through their back or side yards. A balcony is just as safe with a clear wall and the higher up the balcony; the taller the fencing and the less likely there will be injury or severe windswept moments.

From fabric screens to clear stand-alones, windscreens are a unique yet necessary invention. They can protect from the sun on a hot summer day, the crowds at a sports game, the pool from little children or the wind from ruining a perfectly pleasant day outside. It may seem straightforward enough, but a screen is a marvelous thing to have in any setting. A playground can be surrounded by it or keep play equipment cool to the touch. Schools can use as an overhang for windy or hot days. They can be used to surround or house a vehicle like the roofing of a temporary carport, or as a sculptured blockade in the backyard. Whatever their use, windscreens are a fantastic thing to have for anywhere and for any reason.
